Image
Cinderella (Not Quite the Fairy Tale #1) by May Sage 2 out of 5 Synopsis The King needs an heir and that means finding some sort of woman to do the job. "That's all it's about, ultimately: basic, carnal compatibility in order to satisfy this need. For that reason, the pictures I request of those who wish to apply are explicit. The full prerequisites are attached to the correspondence. If you aren't comfortable with these demands, don't bother applying." Ella applies, seeing straight through the bullshit; she goes as far as to derisively add a set of pictures fitting the requirements the letter demands: A picture of her "pussy" - a fat, indolent Persian - and of her in her nightwear - yoga pants and a hoodie. In lieu of an introduction, her message reads: « Dear Daniel Franko Phillipe Del Luz, I've applied to guarantee that I'm not summoned to your little orgy. Fuck you. We aren't all stupid. Ella. » It was supposed to go

The most gorgeous man she’d ever laid eyes on, with more Welsh charm than you could shake a stick at; she was a goner. But Lou, despite her beauty, was just too extrovert to interest Dylan, who was convinced that a quiet, shy girl, like Lou’s best friend Frankie, was much more his style. ‘Have at it mate but I’ve got two words for you: high maintenance.’ ‘Don’t think I’d mind putting in the hard yards maintaining that piece of arse,’ one of Dylan’s more disgusting rugby mates replied. ‘Well good luck to you,’ Dylan returned, looking completely relaxed now that they were discussing Lou and not his precious Frankie. ‘I like mine heavy on the sweet and light on the ball-breaking bitch, but each to his own.’ After overhearing that exchange, Lou buries her pain and pines for him in private, bu

Viennese Waltz

Image
Viennese Waltz by Alex Brightsmith 3 out of 5 Synopsis Dance with the Devil if you must, but be sure you call the tune. Alex Brightsmith’s debut novel is an intriguing introduction to the girl currently calling herself Kathryn Blake. Kate is a flamboyant traceuse, a nerveless pickpocket, an unrivalled cat-burglar . . . Kate is whatever she needs to be; what better place to meet her than Vienna, that city of a thousand faces? If she herself is disappointed with the city, it is because she has half expected, beyond all reasonable probability, to walk into her mother’s baroque fantasy, but she can reconcile herself to that. So it is not her mother’s city, well she is not her mother’s daughter, and she is not in Vienna for the dancing. Kate is wrong: Vienna is always about dancing, if not her mother’s bright waltzes by candlelight, then her father’s intricate cold war quadrilles in the dark. The cold war is over, but the dance goes on.

Trick or Treat Book Blog Hop

Image
Welcome to the Northern Witch's Book Blog. I came across Trick or Treat Reads that was set up by Patricia Lynne (YA/NA author) , and the idea is that you can jump from blog to blog and pick up free books. This is just like trick-or-treating, but better! Let's face it, sweets are delicious bad for you; books are awesome; and honestly, once you get to a certain age it is frowned upon to go asking your neighbours for sweets. So, as much as I'd like to give you a trick option, let's get onto the treats:

Countdown to... Halloween

We have come to that time of year, when the C-word is not allowed to be mentioned until after Halloween. (I'm planning on dressing as Maleficent this year - a child-hating witch - perfect!)
